THE 1st VIRTUAL SUFFOLK FESTIVAL IN OUR 90th FESTIVAL YEAR
DON'T FORGET - Entries are open for our 1st Virtual Suffolk Festival
Dear Suffolk Festival Supporters,
It seems appropriate that I should be writing this newsletter on ‘Make Music Day’. This is a grassroots festival that started in France in 1982 in order to allow people to enjoy music, wherever they were on that day. The festival spread quickly and is celebrated now in 125 countries around the world. You may have heard part of it on social media sites and I am sure that, like me, you are overwhelmed by the sheer joy of hearing so many people making music even though the majority are playing alone in their homes.
We are thrilled that we are getting entries for the Virtual Suffolk Festival and know how much it means to people to have a purpose to their practice and an opportunity, not just to play, but to perform. Submitting a video means you have the opportunity to make the performance the absolute best it can be; with no performance nerves you can concentrate fully on dancing, acting, playing and singing from the heart. Remember, as well as giving you excellent feedback, the adjudicators want to be entertained.
Unlike in our usual festival, we are asking you to perform a group of pieces in your class. You may only enter your class once and you just pay one fee for your class, even though you may be doing three dances or pieces. If you are a musician and want to enter on two different instruments you may enter twice.
This year you can choose to compete or just to perform, you will not be judged against other competitors in your class if you don’t want to be, you can use this as an opportunity to give a focus to your practice and to receive impartial professional feedback. There is an award for the ‘most promising’ in each category, but, as performers, you already have the most valuable award – your dedication and commitment to your art.
